I&#8217;m Hal.<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m a second-year PhD student in Computer Science at <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.cornell.edu\/\">Cornell Tech<\/a>, working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.cornell.edu\/~shmat\/\">Vitaly Shmatikov&#8217;s<\/a> lab on privacy, security, and AI. Last year, I was generously funded by a <a href=\"https:\/\/gradschool.cornell.edu\/financial-support\/fellowships\/new-student-fellowships\/\">Cornell University Fellowship<\/a>. Presently, I&#8217;m an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsfgrfp.org\/\">NSF Graduate Research Fellow<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 2021 to 2024, I worked as a Senior Privacy Engineer at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wikimediafoundation.org\/\">Wikimedia Foundation<\/a>, focusing on differential privacy, algorithmic accountability and transparency, and global accessibility. I&#8217;m still working on utilizing Wikimedia&#8217;s public data for quick and accurate geolocated online trend analysis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also sometimes write and edit for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/joinreboot.org\/\">Reboot<\/a> <\/em>and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kernelmag.io\/\">Kernel Magazine<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I double-majored in Computer Science (B.S.) and History (B.A.) at Brown University, graduating in December 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I played keys and wrote music with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/birdnest.music\/\">Birdnest<\/a> from 2021 to 2024, and was a founding member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/honey.comb\/\">Honeycomb<\/a> before that.
